29 things I want to share with you on my 29th birthday today

You can never know for sure if you’re going to live until your next birthday. So appreciate life. Pass on what you’ve learned. Share your strengths and gifts with others.

As Jim Carry has said,

1. Love

The first thing I’ve learned in life was to love. My parents taught me that and I am endlessly thankful to them. Love is all we need because it can conquer all.

2. Gratitude

If we could learn already in childhood, to be truly thankful for everything we have, we would handle our lives in an incredibly wiser way.

If you feel grateful that you can lift your arm anytime you want to, that you can hear the music you want to listen to, that you can see all beauty that nature and humans have created, that you can run whenever you need to hurry up, you’d probably be more careful with your body. You’ll realize it is a gift. It is nature’s perfection and it is your responsibility to treat it with respect. This is true for all good things in your life. Be thankful.

3. People

Nothing else can make you feel special on your birthday except for your friends and family. All wealth and successes won’t mean anything to you if you can’t share them with others. Feeling love for others and feeling the love in other people’s hearts is the most divine thing on Earth. This is why people should always be your first priority and first concern. Whatever occupation, ambitions or challenges you have, never put anything else above people.

4. Focus on the positive

The truth is, 90% of the things in your life are right if you think about it. Another truth is, where attention goes, energy flows. So don’t overlook the 90%. If you want to create more positive energy in the world, give more attention to the good than to the bad. It’s that simple.

5. Forgive everyone everything

Everyone does the best they can in every moment, with the knowledge and experience they have in that moment. Life is complex and every human being makes mistakes. Forgive yourself and others everything. The less weight you carry with you, the easier it’s going to be for you to move on.

6. Use the power of your mind

The greatest power of us humans is that we can choose what to think. The way we use that power determines our lives.

7. Take 100% responsibility for your life

When you are a child, your parents are responsible for you. They shape your personality, in good and bad ways, just as your environment does. Yet, at some point, you are able to think on your own. From that moment on you are the only one responsible for every single choice you make. Become your parents and choose your environment on your own.

8. Be a role model consciously

Everyone is a role model already. Everyone influences others by the way they live. Aiming to be better does not only serve you but also everyone else around you. Think about the example you give when you make a decision.

9. Smile

Every smile has the power to open a door. Even if it is just the train door.
Be generous with your smiles and they’ll come back to you in the shape of positive emotions and experiences.

10. Be everything you want to be

Whiskey and smoothie. Deep reflections and light impulses. Warm compassion and ruthless reason. Rachmaninoff and Rihanna. Dzen and caffeine. You can be all that together, you don’t have to choose just one.
Appreciate and try out all colors existing.

11. The only way out is through

The mind has no other place as itself. In your mind, you can create hell, and you can create heaven. Whatever you choose determines your experience and your outcomes. Whatever challenge is in front of you, the only way out is through.

12. Be brave

Put fear in the backseat. You are driving. The most important thing for every human being is to overcome their fears. Fear is the root of all problems.
When you conquer big fears, small ones dissolve automatically. Stand for what you believe in and don’t ever let anyone else determine what you’re going to do with yourself and your life.

13. Write

A lot of times you think you need help, you could help yourself. Just sit down and write down the answers to following questions:
1. What is it that bothers me?
2. What can I do to change it?
3. What am I deciding to do?
4. When do I start?

14. Fight all your demons

When you beat them, nobody can beat you. When you learn to determine how you feel about yourself, you are the only one who has control over your happiness.

15. Dress well and do sports

You’re gonna feel good and look good. (In that order)
That will inspire people and attract them to you.

16. Read and learn how your brain functions

We can use our brain to figure out how our brain works — isn’t that great? What else do you want? You’ve got everything you need.

17. Give others love, support, and warmth

Even and especially when you think you need those things yourself. The moment you give them to others you’ll know you already have them.

18. Emotions and reason are on the same team

I’ve been thinking about the supposed conflict between emotions and reason for a long time. There is no conflict. They work together. Emotions come to direct your attention (mind) in a certain direction. The same power has reason over emotions. Explore and learn to manage these forces.

19. Create ideas, dreams, and goals

In our world today, someone with an idea will always determine what someone without an idea is going to do. Build your dreams, or someone else will hire you to build theirs.

20. Focus on your vision, not on reality

If you want to create something better than reality, you need to focus on your vision more than you focus on reality.

21. Define your priorities every day

And follow them freely and ruthlessly. If you don’t run your day, it’ll run you.

22. Give room to beautiful thoughts

Just like in design or in art exhibitions, a beautiful picture needs clear space to unfold its impact. The same is true for thoughts. Whether you have a beautiful thought or you read words of wisdom in a book, give them time and space to plant seeds in your mind.

23. Quality requires mindfulness, action, courage, and love

Whether it’s business, personal life, relationships, health or wellness, if you want to build something of great worth, you need to take courageous action, put love above all else and be mindful to navigate wisely.

24. Don’t judge

You never know all factors that have lead to the thing you want to judge.
Try to understand and be compassionate instead. That is constructive and meaningful. Judging is never the right way to go.

25. Reach out to everybody who inspires you

Even just to tell them how they inspired you. Don’t save on compliments and nice words. The least that is going to happen, when you express your joy freely, is that you’re going to lift your spirit. The best that can happen is that you become friends with people you admire.

26. You are responsible for your actions and reactions

And that is the biggest responsibility already. You express who you are through your actions and reactions. So don’t base them on actions or reactions of others. Don’t base them on anything outside yourself. Base them only on what person you want to be. Think, act and live like the person you want to be.

Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.

27. Discipline

Discipline is about habits. Your habits define your whole life.
Pablo Picasso once said, inspiration exists, but it has to find you working.

27. The meaning of anger

When you get angry at somebody, most likely that’s because they’ve crossed your borders. Cool down and look back. Did you set them in the first place? Did you tell them not to cross?

28. Time management is like chess

The masters always think one move forward. If you want to have it all: a life that involves professional success and plenty of time for personal pursuits, too, then you need to be strategic about how you spend your work hours. Focus on what matters and minimize what doesn’t.

29. Always do more

Do more than people expect you to and do more than you expect of yourself. The more you do, the more you find out that you are capable of. This is the way to expand and develop. You can think of yourself, your family, your home, your neighbors, your friends, the people at work, the environment, and care for all that. You can do even much more than that.
